Since December 1961 Greenlanders in Denmark have had a choir, who through the years has gained respect and recognition throughout Europe where it has performed even in their own country Greenland ( Kalaallit Nunaat ).

MIK was formed by a coincidence in 1961 by Knud Wissum, a programme-producer in Radio Denmark, after finishing a two years assignment with Radio Greenland.Mr Wissum had been asked to form a folkloristic group of young Greenlanders, to represent Denmark at the San Remo Flower Festival in Italy in january 1962. The Group perform not only traditional greenlandic old and new songs but also traditional dances is exhibited

Since the beginning of the 1970 a significant growth of the Greenlandic cultural heriitage has taken place. The small Greenlandic language sphere was then dangerously threatened, but through a large scale display of selfconfidence, the leading Greenlandic writers, poets and politicans made a special effort to preserve the language, identity and culture.

The Greenlandic Troup MIK has, through the years, contributed to this process by producing several recordings of new and old Greenlandic songs and psalms adding to them a modern sound of language. To the great satisfaction of MIK, this has been well received by listeners in Greenland as well as the other part of the world, where MIK has appeared

MIK has since 1983 participated in the European folkloristic Festival - Europeade. A european cultureforum with about 8.000 singers, folk musicians and dancers. A forum, where MIK gained success amongst the audience as well as amongst the other participants from Europa.
